Setting the pace for 2008, the entire Living Legends crew locked down at Encore Studio (Dr Dre’s The Chronic 2001, Eminem Marshall Mathers LP, etc.) to record ‘The Gathering’, out 28th July on Legendary Music, set for nationwide release on their own Legendary Music label. Each song in this brand new collection features every single MC on every single track, and it is definitely the most well crafted batch since their inception.

As a collective, the prolific Legendary crew has sold well over a quarter million records between them.

The line-up includes Murs, The Grouch, Luckyiam, Eligh, Scarub, Sunspot Jonz, Aesop and Bicasso. ‘The Gathering’ is a seven song collection highlighted by a socially conscious anthem for peace, while not forgetting to move the crowd with heavy bangers, catchy hooks and fire-spitting verses. The record was mastered by Grammy Nominated Mike Lazer (Gnarls Barkely “St. Elsewhere”) at Paramount Mastering and Recording and has a sound bigger than anything coming from the independent hip hop movement.

‘The Gathering’, a precursor to a full length coming in late ‘08, serves to warn the greater hip hop massive: Don’t forget the longtime leaders of the Wild West coast!

The new album from beat boiler & scientist of the sampler - Wax Tailor is out now. ‘Hope & Sorrow’, the follow up to the hugely successful ‘Tales of The Forgotten Melodies’, contains 15 tracks featuring a range of guests from The Others, Voice & A.S.M. to the sweet soul of Charlotte Savary & Marina Quaisse to the spoken word skills of Ursula Rucker.

The album kicks off with a head nodding instrumental intro, and sets the tone for what’s to come. The samples and cuts ground you in that hip hop mentality, as you are whisked into the uptempo, soulful ‘The Way we Lived’ (which you can download bellow). From there you get a journey that goes from straight up boom bap raps to beautiful soulstress sounds and back again.

Wax Tailor demonstrates top notch production, paired with well chosen guests, samples and scratches to provide an album that flows perfectly from start to finish with a fine balance of instrumentals and vocal tracks. Personal favourites are ‘Positively Inclined’ and ultra-dope ‘House of Wax’.

In another Delarge exclusive, we are proud to present a brand new 55 min podcast mix called Lone Sound [Drums] by Neut from the Timbre Mill.

The Timbre Mill studio on the east coast of Australia has been very active in the last six months, lying to rest the slight rumble in favour of an aural assault in both production, and the beloved mixtape. Two DJ’s/Producers, Neut, and Neural, have been busying themselves with numerous projects, the latest being this podcast for Delarge.co.uk.

Neut has assembled 55 minutes of dirty psych drums from the past three decades into a coherent mix, its raw, its loud, its all about the drums. It’s a beat tape, with an eclectic difference… The pair prefer to stay anonymous; focussing on just the music, there’s always something to do, and to listen to. The future will see a debut vinyl release, and more mixtapes to overload your car stereo and ipod. For contact and future releases, visit myspace.com/thetimbremill.

Neut says:
“It’s all about the drums… I like drums… I hope you like drums… If you like these tracks, support the artists, go buy their beats.”

» Listen to / download Lone Sound [Drums] (& view tracklist)

Massive props to Neut for the mix, it’s a corker and thanks for taking the time out to do it.

Photo by Neut, taken at Otford easter 2008, (”Yes it’s a fridge…”)

And also congratulations to the winners in our Dephect Clothing competition, James Green (jacket), Stuart Woodburn (Tshirt) & Simon Tibbles (Tshirt).

This will probably be the last update to Delarge before the all new brand spanking new design and format for the site, which is on its way…

From the streets of the Lower East Side New York, the City of Light and London Town come Daniel Jackson, Gabriel Mimouni and Simon Waller, who unite to form the Virgil Sturgeon - All three of these well worn journey men have been working on music since they could stutter, cry, and sometimes talk... Three different countries, three different people. Dan met Gab, Gab met Simon, Simon met Dan, and the three laughed and talked of Eq's and LP's.

Here you will be given the bait and tackle, rods, reels, wet suits, snorkels, flippers, and a single engine propeller motor boat to make this expedition a bit more Cousteau-ish.
